Rated 3. Carole King - Tapestry. You've Got a Friend Carole King. View All. Great purchase. Is perhaps a little harder than intermediate to play as written at speed but can be easily modified.
The piano part is pretty true to the Carole King recording, including the solo. A little simplified but not simple. Chords seem accurate. The melody line is written separately--the piano arrangement is for accompaniment, not playing the melody. This saved me a lot of time figuring out how to accompany a singer on this song. Boz went in the company of Jann Wenner to Muscle Shoals in Alabama for an authentic Southern soul sound, recording with the all-white Muscle Shoals rhythm section who had recently made their reputation working with artists of the calibre of Wilson Pickett, Aretha Franklin and Etta James. The album also features a wonderful horn section, excellent female backing vocalists, and a stunning contribution from a year-old hotshot session guitarist named Duane Allman.
The original vinyl release featured six songs on side one, including five Scaggs originals and one song contributed by a member of the horn section - and side one is terrific. This time there was not one obvious album that would fit the bill. Would I go for my second all-time favourite album or something from my top five all-time favourite albums?
It was ages before I owned a copy of this LP myself but I remember spending a large proportion of spring half-term holiday listening to it over and over having been lent the LP by my school friend Alan Fulwood. The playing of the Ram Jam Band could not be faulted but what Geno lacked in vocal precision and technical ability, he made up for with sheer power, passion, humour and unadulterated entertainment.
